I already have 70 poems and those are only the ones left behind. Not bad at all. Well done everyone!

Wimbledon and Glastonbury weather is forecast for our final weekend of exploration in the forest. Though it is looking a bit showery the temperatures are pretty good and in our glade in our shelters we shouldn’t feel a drop. Can’t wait to get on with a bit of writing. (Bring yer wellies x)

Young carers of Carlisle,Workington and Millom with Anthony Mottershead, Julie Ann Sheridan, Lisa Roberts, Charlie Whinney, Jackie and Carol.
Over the weekend we built four unique dens along the purple trail. Next week we hope to add more builds and write more poems for future visitors to enjoy. We slept in tents, a yurt and a log cabin and used the Yan and it’s store to full capacity. We learnt so much about bats and red kites from Grizedales rangers, Iain and Kate. Danny and Alex’s Nest, built with Julie around the base of a conifer used the contours and rocks to full effect.
So much achieved in so little time. More forest adventures are planned for our second session with Annie Berrington in 10 days time. More photos here.

Final preparations are now underway for our first residential weekend in Grizedale Forest. Joining the team we have artist Julie Ann Sheridan, poet Alison Ireland and uber woodbender Charlie Whinney (see his Rolling Summer House). Looking forward tohaving some fun in the forest sun with young carers from across the North West.

Podcamp is a unique residency at Grizedale Forest scheduled for June 2011.
ArtPodcamp is an art project based in Grizedale Forest, providing the unique opportunity for young carers across Cumbria to engage with digital technology and explore the forest environment. Carers aged 18 and under will take part in two residential camping weekends in the forest in June. Artist Lisa Roberts will work with the carers to create a virtual art trail through Grizedale Forest, using text poetry and mobile phones to reflect on the caring lives of the participants. The trail will become part of Grizedale’s renowned forest art trails, and the public will be able to follow it via a map distributed at the Grizedale visitor centre. Podcamp participants will also learn about forest wildlife – including the Red Kite (bird of prey) release project; and how to build forest hides for shelter and observation.ist Lisa Roberts will work with a group of young carers in developing a brand new trail of text poems based in tree settings around the Bowkershead Campsite. Working with local craftspeople we will explore ideas about caring, both in a domestic and rural setting.
